Bayleaf has opened it's doors again. Those missing Bengali food can stop here for some quintessential Bengali fare like Aloo Posto, Shorshe Machh, Chhanar Dalna, machher chop, Bhetki fish fry etc. The food is reasonably good and two people can have their fill in about Rs. 500/-.

It is of the rare variety, in fact only one of the two I know (the other one is very down market) in Chennai, but I suspect there could be others around the Apollo Hospital.

This is not strictly an 'only Bengali fare' restaurant, you get the usual North Indian suspects and a very good Lucknowi style Biryani too.

Next time you are in Chennai, give it a try!

was in Kolkata last week and enjoyed a quick snack including a major helpng of Nakur Chandra Nandy Sandesh before proceeding for my meeting at Kenilworth . . . had very ordinary supper at the very usual good hotel buffet with very ordinary generally north Indian fare at the same hotel before retiring early for my early morning flight back . . . . all in all a good day in a good city with good people just two days before the cyclone!

Nakur Chandra Nandy Sandesh - rating *****

Next time you go to Kolkata, make it a point to visit 6 Ballygunge Place for authentic (probably a little larger than life) Bengali khana.
